When it comes to blogging, which is more important? Words, or ideas?
Now, if you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you already know that I love words–so much so, that playing word games is my idea of a fun time.
So, you’d think I’d cast a vote in favor of words being more important for blogs, right?
If you think that, then you’d be wrong!
As much as I love words, I believe that ideas are the most crucial part of a successful blog post and words are the tools used to convey ideas. Without a good idea for your blog post you’ve got…nothing.
Of course, poorly chosen words, bad grammar, or excessive misspellings can obscure a good idea. I’m sure you’ve all read posts that were so poorly written that they left you scratching your head and wondering what the author was really trying to express. The best-written post with the most clever words really is worthless if the idea is useless.
On the other hands, words, when used correctly with a good idea, are powerful. They can fascinate, motivate, and even educate.
That, of course, is the writer’s job–using the words in the way that best expresses the idea without obscuring the meaning.
Are you getting the most value from your words? Are you sure?
