Of Note: Most Notable 2007 Writing Blogs
![]() |
For most of last year I explored the Internet, finding what I considered to be the most helpful or interesting blogs specifically for writers. When I found one that I really liked or found particularly helpful, I’d share it here, in an “Of Note” feature.
My purpose with the “Of Note” series was always to create a resource for writers. Kind of a “go to” list with the most helpful blogs on it.
With that end in mind, I’ve decided to find out which five of my “Of Note” choices you liked the best. So I’m asking, what were your favorites from among the “Of Note” choices? To participate, leave your response in a comment to this post by January 27th.
(Please limit your votes to “Of Note” blogs. One vote per commentator.)
This is your chance to show me what you liked!
When I get the final results, I’ll feature the five most notable writing blogs (as selected by you, the readers) in a permanent page about the “Of Note” series on this blog. I’ll also announce the results in my regular “Of Note” column on February 2nd. On February 9th, I’ll resume my search for notable writing blogs for this year.
(Once again, please limit your votes to “Of Note” blogs. One vote per commentator.)

Note: As I was reading through this list, I was surprised at some of the blogs that I apparently didn’t review last year. It was not an intentional oversight on my part. I’ll definitely start the 2008 series with those blogs. Feel free to send me feedback as well.

Oh man. Tough call. My favorite is Freelance Writing Gigs/Jobs, followed closely by Writing Forward.
Don’t pay attention to JCM Enterprises/Web Content Writer Tips. Those guys are hacks.

Hmm! One vote per commentator. I take it your top vote is Freelance Writing Jobs?
Lillie Ammann | Jan 5, 2008 | Reply
Laura,
This is an impossible assignment for me. There’s no way I can pick a single favorite - at least half a dozen of the listed blogs are my favorites.
Lillie Ammann | Jan 5, 2008 | Reply
Oh, Laura, one more thing … your blog isn’t on the list, and it’s one of my favorites as well!
Laura | Jan 5, 2008 | Reply
Hi Lillie!
Well, I can’t award this to myself. Besides, I never did an “Of Note” profile for this blog.
Thanks for your loyalty, though. I very much appreciate it.
Lis Garrett ~ a writer's woolgatherings | Jan 5, 2008 | Reply
Oh wow! I am honored to even be on this list!
Sharon Hurley Hall | Jan 5, 2008 | Reply
That’s an almost impossible task, because I read many of those blogs and at least six of them are on my ‘drop everything and read it now’ list.
Renae | Jan 5, 2008 | Reply
I did not discover your blog until at least half way into the year, but my favorite so far is Punctuality Rules!
On my first visit to Deb’s blog her post compared blogs to homemade gifts. I loved that sentiment and subscribed immediately.

From those on this list, I’ll vote for Writing FORWARD.
Off topic:
I recently found a comment from you that had never been published on my blog - along with 18 others. I posted about the mishaps. Just wanted to apologize. I didn’t NOT publish your comment on purpose. I never knew it was there. :’(

Hi Laura, thanks for publishing the full list of ‘of note’ writing sites - it’s a great resource for all of us.
I find it hard to select just one, but if I had to I’d go for Grow Your Writing Business for the community and companionship offered - esp at the weekend cafes - and because it offers the chance to meet many of the authors of the sites you’ve got listed here!

Wow, thanks, Laura. I too am honored to be on your list.

Thanks for adding me to your list! I’m touched . . . and now I don’t know who to vote for. Me, or one of the 42 other really great sites!
Matt Keegan | Jan 7, 2008 | Reply
Ugh! I feel like I am a candidate in either the Democratic or Republican presidential primaries! How do you choose? How do you stand out?
I’m just honored for the mention, so I’ll leave it at that.

Laura,
I’m honored that Writer’s Notes was one of your “Of Note” blogs this year! With all the great company I have on that list, though, I’m simply not sure I could choose one blog as my very favorite. What can I say? You just did too good a job choosing fantastic blogs for this series!
I’ll give it a bit more thought, but if I were you, I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for this blogger’s vote!
Good luck choosing a winner!
Jeanne

Thanks Jeanne! I really hope some people do vote. Voting yeay for a favorite blog is not voting the other blogs down.
Vivienne Quek | Jan 11, 2008 | Reply
I’m wondering how to choose as I have not even visited half the writing blogs you’ve mentioned! Still, these are sites I frequent:The Article Writer, Inklings, The Copywriter’s Blog and The Copywriter Underground.
Laura | Jan 11, 2008 | Reply
Thanks for your votes Vivienne! I’ll definitely count these.
Laura | Jan 12, 2008 | Reply
Oops! Vivienne, I see that you have to pick one. (To be fair, everyone should follow the same rules.)
What’s your favorite from amount those four?
Harmony | Jan 12, 2008 | Reply
Hi Laura,
My pick is Inkthinker!

I’ll vote for Web Content Writer Tips. Found it on the Top Ten Blogs for Writers, and I think it’s great. Gotta be good enough for this list - hacks or not!
Vivienne Quek | Jan 13, 2008 | Reply
OK… if I had to choose one. I’ll vote for Matt Keagon.
Cole M. | Jan 20, 2008 | Reply

Melissa Donovan | Feb 5, 2008 | Reply
So many of my favorites are on this list… Hmm, I’ll have to go with JCME (now Men With Pens).
It’s a privilege to be counted among such notable blogs! Thank you, Laura.
Laura | Feb 5, 2008 | Reply
Hi Melissa!
The competition is actually closed now. Your selection was a winner anyway.

Dear Laura:
Will you be giving awards for 2008 or 2009?
If so, I’d like to offer my site Seawoman’s Caribbean Writing Opps. for nomination.
Keep up the encouragement!
Peace,
Sandra
