Web Content Thursdays: Bits and Pieces from Around the Internet

puzzle-pieces.JPG

For today’s web content Thursday I’ve decided to provide some web content tips that I’ve run across during the past few weeks.

Tip Number One: Do You Know What SEO Is? Do You Really?

A year and a half ago, when I first started to consider moving part of my writing business online, I didn’t either.

In my websurfing this past week, I came across a link to the Newbie Guide to SEO at the Freelancing Journey blog. The Newbie Guide is a great resource, whether you’re getting started with SEO or just need to brush up.

Tip Number Two: Do You Know What Kind of Content People Want to Read About?

If there weren’t some online tools to help us, then this could have been a trick question. Your guess would be as good as mine. Fortunately there are a few tools. Here are just a few of them: Google Trends, Yahoo! Buzz.

Tip Number Three: Write Quality Keyword Articles Like a Pro

Another find from my holiday websurfing - a great post on how to write better keyword articles over at Web Writing Info. Check out Yawn! Exciting Ways to Wake Up Your Keyword Articles.

Tip Number Four: Well, I Wrote A Few Things For You To Check Out

When I posted Social Media Secrets: A WAHM’s Guide to Getting The Most From Social Networking I didn’t expect for it to become one of the most popular posts on the blog, but that’s what has happened. I’d like to invite WritingThoughts readers over there to leave their comments.

Also, I’ve started a new writing gig. I’m the new cohost over at b5media’s Business and Blogging. If your business uses blogging or is related to blogging in any way, then this may be the place for you to be.

Enjoy these tips, or share your own!

  1. Even though I know about SEO and use it for my clients and my own online blogs and sites, there’s always something else to learn! Thanks for posting this, especially that link to the Freelancing Journey site.

  2. Katherine, I’m glad that you found this piece helpful.

  3. I did. And I keep noticing things each time I read it - such as “Yawn! Exciting Ways to Wakeup Your Keyword Articles”… as someone who writes a lot of these, I tend to fall into the same routine with them, which pretty much defeats the purpose.

  4. Laura,

One of the first things that popped out to me when I read this list of notes from around the web is that they all have to do with technology (ie, SEO, keywords, social networking, blogging, etc.).

I did a series this past November entitled Freelance Writer’s Technology Month . My whole point in focusing on technology was for freelancers to realize how important it is to grasp this if they are to continue to be successful as freelance writers — especially as things like social media really take over.

During my research for this series, I discovered the need for SEO writers, started marketing for this work and have had great success at it.

Finally, thanks for mentioning my blog in your list of blogs for last year. I really appreciate it and wish you continued success.

    Sincerely,
    Yuwanda Black, Publisher
