Blog Rush Has NOT Caused a Rush of Traffic to My Blog

Some you may have noticed the new BlogRush widget in the right sidebar over there above the MyBlogLog widget. After reading this post on ProBlogger AND receiving several invitations from other bloggers, I decided to be an early adapter. I accepted one of the invitations and installed the BlogRush widget on WritingThoughts Saturday night.

So far, I have not seen any significant increase in traffic that can be traced to BlogRush. I know this because I use Statcounter to track my page visits and page views. I have been haunting the “Came From” and “Recent Came From” categories to find new traffic that has been generated by BlogRush. So far, as far as I can tell, there hasn’t been any.

My traffic was up slightly yesterday (despite the fact that I didn’t have a new post), but when I checked the statistics it appears that the increase was due to StumbleUpon (thanks to whoever stumbled the blog) and not BlogRush.

A later ProBlogger post gave some tips for using BlogRush and one of those was to write about it. So, that’s what this post is. A post about BlogRush.

We’ll see if it works. I’ll probably wait a few more weeks to see if BlogRush generates any new traffic. If it doesn’t, well, I might be better off trying to sell an ad to put in that space or leaving it as empty space. While I’m at it, MyBlogLog doesn’t generate traffic for me any longer. I wonder if I’d be better off taking it down too?

Of course, it’s always possible the statistics are wrong. Did you find this blog through BlogRush? If so, let me know. I love to get comments!

Added later on 9-18-07: I went back out to the BlogRush dashboard. It still appears that I have no click-throughs. I did, however, find my referral code. If you want to give BlogRush a try to see if you have better luck here it is: BlogRush referral.

  1. Laura, that is good information you have shared. Personally, I am rarely an early user of most web products preferring to take a wait and see attitude until more information is available. Perhaps it will take weeks or even months before a traffic increase is realized. Don’t hold your breath though!

BTW, this page is being stumbled as it gives essential information to other bloggers.

  2. Thanks for the Stumble Matt. I see that it did generate traffic (Stumble always does seem to bring traffic quickly.)

I updated the post because BlogRush has updated their statistics. I also found my referral code, so I put it in the post. I’ll be watching this very closely to see what happens.

  3. Glad you got to see some stats, Laura. Whenever I’ve checked the system has been down. I really don’t buy the “oh,my goodness - we never expected such a response” caper. If they wanted beta testers, why not ask for that? But then that might have taken the edge off the “don’t miss the (gold)rush” approach.

  4. Thanks for this information, Laura. I’ve been reading about BlogRush everywhere I go … and the more I read, the less apt I am to sign up. :-)

Although I’ve only been blogging a little over a year, I’ve been online for eight years or more. I’ve seen quite a few of these traffic generating schemes come and go. I used to sign my Web site up for new ones, but none of them ever panned out for me.

I’ve read several places that BlogRush will probably be great for people that already have a lot of traffic, but the way it’s set up, it’s not likely to generate a lot of traffic for blogs that don’t already have much traffic. The “it takes traffic to generate traffic” version of the old “it takes money to make money” axiom.

  5. I’m gonna see how it goes for a few weeks or so. I try to keep the clutter down on my blog, so anything that is just THERE can go after trying it out.

  6. Hi Des, Lillie, and Angela!

Des — I am reading more about BlogRush and will have an update next week. (Still no click-throughs.)

Lillie — I fear that you’re right. I’m a little surprised. I didn’t expect miracles, but I thought that I’d at least get some visitors from them.

Hi Angela — I certainly hope that it works for you.
