Of Note: The Copywriting Maven
This week’s blog “Of Note” is The Copywriting Maven. If you write copy for a living, this is one of the best blogs out there on the subject. I try to stop by this blog at least once a week and when I do I never fail to learn something new.
Of course, it’s only natural that a master copywriter like the maven would produce a top-notch blog like this. (You’ve got to admire someone who would use the word “maven.”)
Recent posts of interest include two fun quizzes:
- What’s Your Online Identity Brand Score? Calculate it here! (an online branding quiz that I failed miserably)
- Loose or Lose? The Blogger Spelling and Grammar Test (which I aced)
Another post of interest is Beyond Copy, What Else Can You Write for Fun or Profit?
If you haven’t been reading this blog, you’re missing a treat (and a copywriting education)!
Last week “Of Note†focused on Write Stuff. You can read about it here.
Note: If you’re consistently posting great information and haven’t seen your blog featured in “Of Note†yet, I apologize. I’ll probably find you soon. I know there are a lot of great blogs out there; I discover more new ones each day. (So many blogs, so little time …)

Thank you for the fun links, Laura. At the online identity brand score I had to score a 10… it was a must. After all, this is my job. But, Laura, it is not too late to start branding your name. I know about the General Hospital issue, but you could be even more famous. You have the power of the words and the power of the Web.
Then you also have the Career Distinction blog, which is full of tips to help you build up a strong online brand. And you have Woody Allen’s wise words too: “Seventy percent of success in life is showing up.”

Thanks for the encouragement Mig! I’ll keep trying. After all, I can certainly handle the showing up part!!

Laura, thanks for the mighty kind shout out here and on my blog proper! And I agree with the first commenter. Why couldn’t you be THE Laura Spencer, GH notwithstanding

This is some really good stuff, Laura! Just wanted to let you know that tomorrow and Wednesday I’ll be posting entries on my blog about these two quizzes (one per day), which will include links to both your and the Copywriting Maven’s blogs.
Thanks for the leads!
Jeanne

Hi Roberta!
Thanks for coming by. I appreciate the encouragement. Who knows? Maybe with the help of this blog I will become THE Laura Spencer.
Thanks Jeanne!
That’s really generous of you. I think your readers will enjoy the quizzes as well.

Well, here is my first tip to promote the Laura Spencer brand: write guest blog entries on many authority sites. For example The Thinking Blog is waiting for entries, eWritings would love to have your writing thougts, and I bet that many other sites feel the same.
Next time I’ll write about you, I will place a technorati tag with your name on it.
Then submit a few articles to relevant directories. And never sign with a pen name. You could ad “writer” after Laura Spencer - something like “Laura Spencer, The Writer” to help the search engines sort the results and push you higher.

Wow Mihaela!
Those are pretty good tips! I appreciate it.
I guess I’m already on my way to guest posting with my entry on Vivienne’s blog last week. Eventually I’ll do more, but I do have to squeeze my guest blogging in with my paid work schedule and family commitments (not to mention keeping this blog and OpinionMom alive).
I actually owe another blogger a guest post that is half-written on my computer. When I ever get that one done, I’d love to do one for you.
I hadn’t thought about adding “writer” after my name. At first I thought it seemed unnatural, but now that I think about it I think I’ve seen other bloggers put a little blurb after their name about what they do.
Thanks!

Hey Laura!
Get links. Honestly, I was bummed to get 9 out of 10…as Internet Branding is my thang!
Mig is great! For more tips, please refer to my above link but yes:
1. guest blog posts
2. article submissions
3. online press release distributions
4. and, your blog, your blog, your blog!
As for speling and grammer…I won’t even take that, as I will difinitely fail miserabley…hee hee…hope I didn’t upset u too much with that sentence!
Yay, I may be a best-selling author and columnist…but, I have GREAT editors and copywriters to back me up
Now, back to that test and see where I may have lost my 1-point…

AHA!
I figured out the difference. Mig, I just had to put your name in to see why you got 10 and I got a 9. I have a few 100 more search results too…but here’s the difference:
I get a 10/10 for this level: VP, Highly-regarded Consultant or Acknowledged Thought Leader
I get a 9/10 for this level: C-level Executive, Board Member, Celebrity, Renowned Consultant or Expert.
I believe I already “am” 10/10…but, my goal is to keep my CEO/Board Member status, and obtain “celebrity, renowned consultant or expert” status…
Girl, I’m sooo glad I’m on bed-rest with time to tinker around. I now have 21,600 searches to get a 10/10 I need 51,600 searches. Not 51K-flat. I need 30,000 more search results.
Laura, I’ll be working right along side you, because this little test just got me all hot & heated

Hi Ponn Sabre and welcome to my blog! I think that you’re light years ahead of me as far as branding goes.
It’s definitely something for me strive for.

One’s brand changes in time. For example, my present tagline “Guiding Your Entrepreneurial Spirit to Action”, stuck during the past 3 years as an online biz-start-up. Now, my best-selling book is about “women’s empowerment” and “networking” which has always been the core of my being as a personal, business, website/blog…but, as I evolved online “internet branding” became my new niche…
It’s not about me being light-years ahead of you…it’s about capitalizing on what makes me different from you…and you different from other freelance writers who blog online. This is your “online/internet brand”. The more you share your wise wisdoms/words via the internet…the more your ‘brand’ is formed.
I’m here for u! And, your blog is great–so be proud girl
