A Gaggle of Group Projects
In the past few weeks I’ve participated in three different group writing projects. All of them were interesting. All of them have the potential to help both my readers and myself grow our skills.
Besides, I just can’t seem to help myself.Â
Could entering group writing projects be my new addiction?
In no particular order, here are the group writing projects that I recently participated in. I hope that you enjoy reading through them.
The Fine Art of Blogging
A blogger known only as “Diogenes” has been collecting answers to the question what is blog to you? Diogenes has collected answers from many well-known bloggers including many of my favorites. The answers can be found on the Quasi-Fictional blog.
A few weeks ago Diogenes approached me and asked if I would mind sharing my thoughts for the fine art of blogging project. Of course I said yes. My answers can be found here — WritingThoughts. (Caution: there’s even a picture).
If you’d like to participate in the project, there are instructions for participation on Quasi-Fictional.
Lessons Learned from the World of Work
Robert Hruzek at Middle Zone Musings just wrapped up a writing project that asked participants what they have learned from the world of work.Â
As I’ve started reading through the entire list of entries, I’m learning some fascinating things. Entrants have done everything from working in a bar, to working for the government, to roofing houses, and everything in between. Since I’m a writer, I especially liked this entry on writing at work. It was especially encouraging to read how people have learned and grown from their experiences.
The Blogging Metaphor Project
Liz Strauss has been collecting blogging metaphors at her Successful Blog. That’s why I baked my blogging cake the other day. (I hope you each had a piece.)
While Liz is still collecting the entries, my entry wound up on the fourth list of metaphors. Besides being a cake, some of the other metaphors included: fishing, opera, and a tapestry.
I can’t wait to see the rest of the list!
What About You?

Diogenes Group Projects Liz Strauss Meme Memes The Fine Art of Blogging World of Work

Laura, I think I remember reading somewhere that group writing projects have become the new “memes”. (I think we’re all getting tired of the same old “gazillion things about me” stuff.) Makes sense, though - good projects are really about sharing, and bloggers as a rule love to do that.
Like everything else, though, you might find yourself buried if you’re not careful!

The only one I’ve been involved in thus far has been the “Fine Art of Blogging” project, which I did enjoy. I’ve been so busy lately that I haven’t had much time to come up with–much less write about–a blogging metaphor; though the idea is a fascinating one. And, of course, I’ve missed the project on lessons learned from the world of work. I have, however, enjoyed reading other writers’ submissions to these projects and will continue to do so, as time permits.
Thanks for alerting your readers to the existence of these projects!
Jeanne

Hi Robert! I think that I agree with you. Group projects do seem like the new memes. Personally, I think it’s a good change. Although there were some really meaningful memes, some of them were not very helpful. I always seem to learn something from a group project.
Hi Jeanne! I hope you do find some group projects. I’d love to see your entries.
